sama Bin Laden established his now infamous Al-Qaida Special Forces in 1988 to bring together Arab Mujahideen (holy warriors or Arab Afghans as they are often referred to) who fought in Afghanistan against the Soviet invasion. Al-Qaida's mandate is to form a pan-Islamic Caliphate throughout the world to overthrow "non-Islamic" regimes and to expel Westerners and non-Muslims from Muslim countries. Working in conjunction with allied Islamic militia groups and referred to as "the Base", this group is believed to holds the highest military capability within the World Islamic Front.

Osama Bin Laden is the undisputed leader, called "emir" or "prince" by his selected special operatives that number approximately 6,000 worldwide. Beneath him is the "Shura Al-Majlis" or "Consultative Council," which includes his top Lieutenants. A "Fatwa" committee of the council makes the decisions to carry out specific military operations.

The US Department of Defense has also issued warnings that Al-Qaida may be planning new attacks inside America, Canada and Britain. The group continues to train, finance, and provide logistic support to other Islamic Military groups in support of their mandate.

Recent concerns have arisen over Al-Qaida's nuclear capability. It is believed that the group has made contact with nuclear scientists around the globe and may already have possession of weapons of mass destruction, however this is still a highly debated issue.

It is estimated that a significant quantity of high tech American weaponry provided through the CIA and Pakistan's ISI, including "stinger" anti-aircraft missiles, made their way into the Al-Qaida arsenal after the Russian retreat from Afghanistan and are likely stockpiled at hidden locations inside Afghanistan.

Some al-Qaida's operations are financed through personal savings of operatives, and commercial activities of individuals and businesses.

Since September 11, 2002 the United States and its Coalition have frozen asset of hundreds of Islamic organizations both inside America and around the globe. As the result of this massive sweep, several Islamic relief agencies have filed lawsuits, claiming this action has crippled legitimate support for Islamic causes. Al-Qaida continues to receive support throughout the world to continue its jihad.
