The Dangerous Game Being Played By America And Its Allies In The Name Of Aid

The devastating earthquake that struck Pakistan on the morning of October 8th will go down in history as one of the worst tragedies of our time and indeed one the world’s greatest catastrophes. This event however also bears some remarkable parallels and coincidences, historically speaking. It was during this very month, four years ago, that America took revenge for the attack on the World Trade Center by initiating a merciless bombing campaign on Afghanistan that killed thousands upon thousands of innocent civilians. To carry out this atrocity, Pakistan allowed America to stand on its shoulders and in return, America gave Pakistan the ‘honor’ of becoming its front-line state and central Coalition member in what was then it’s newly declared “war against terrorism”.
Since that time, whatever America wished for or demanded, Pakistan was all too willing to provide. It dutifully obeyed its master, fulfilling it’s every request. At that time, America had the support of over one hundred countries but the position and status enjoyed by Pakistan was second to none. So much so, that the Pakistani leadership began to boast that finally Pakistan held a vital role in the world and has risen in rank!
Exactly four years later, Pakistan was struck by a calamity far worse than 911. The terrible earthquake left thousands of people in desperate need of food, medical aid and shelter. At that crucial moment, Pakistan pleaded to its US “friends”, fully expecting an immediate surge of help as Pakistan had extended America in its time of need. Instead, not one of these so-called friends stepped forward to lend a supporting hand. In sheer desperation, Pakistan screamed for help to its ‘special friend’ America, the world’s most powerful nation, and ultimately the US sent 8 helicopters and a lame financial package. Britain’s first offer of £100,000 was a joke. When America’s helicopters finally arrived, they only made one or two flights a day whereas Pakistani and helicopters from other countries managed to make countless rounds trips to help the victims. It was token support at best. Only God knows what atmosphere these modern, high-tech American helicopters need to operate in.
In the final analysis, America’s real motives under the guise of aid have become all too apparent; it was an in-house whistleblower that spilled the beans. The UK’s Sunday Express revealed that American and British forces that had arrived for rescue and aid operations were in actual fact seizing the opportunity to look for Osama Bin Laden and his companions. For this mission, they had received special orders from George Bush. Regarding this mission, a senior American intelligence officer told the paper that the British service, MI-6 and American CIA had received reports that Osama Bin laden had returned to the northern regions of Pakistan after having his kidneys treated in China. This revelation cleared the confusion over the black hawk helicopters that were sent. Sources have confirmed that these helicopters are equipped with the latest spying and search instruments, however what was needed to help the earthquake victims were Chinooks and other transport helicopters. Few of these were actually sent. Papers published reports on October 26th that American and British spies were now busy testing the DNA of those that were killed in the disaster in an effort to determine the fate of Bin Laden. On the same day, an American diplomat stated in no uncertain terms that American forces were in Pakistan to stay for an unspecified length of time. Sound familiar?
The story of course does not end there. The Americans were not only looking for Osama Bin Laden but also were searching for alleged Kashmiri Mujahideen training camps which India and the rest of the world made so much fuss about. No concrete evidence has ever been provided for their existence, except by General Musharraf. The same American technology that bore us the secrets of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction is now being used to search out Mujahideen training camps in Pakistan. Is it any wonder that India wouldn’t send any helicopters unless its own pilots came along too?
Even as the world’s biggest military Coalition, NATO did not have enough helicopters to send to Pakistan and for those that did make it in, flights would have been grounded to a halt had more money not been poured in. Mighty Japan barely managed to cough-up 3 helicopters. Our neighbor Iran, which we are charged with providing atomic technology to, prevented aid flights from Turkey entering its air space. Eventually some European countries were named and shamed until they responded with financial pledges as the nations of the world were only willing to send man-power. What could be the reasoning behind this? Saudi Arabia was the only one that came forward with generous help and aid and continues to do so. Ironically the country that Pakistan never considered a true friend rose to the occasion by helping its fellow Islamic nation in it’s hour of need. The question remains, when will Pakistan wake up to the reality that American and its allies are fair weather friends that have their own agenda?
