| Human rights groups have criticized
the US for its treatment of the prisoners, who were initially
kept in outdoor cages and are held indefinitely without access
to lawyers. Washington calls the hostages held at the camp
“enemy combatants” and says it may legally hold
them until the end of hostilities. Mohammad Saghir said that
approximately 800 prisoners are being held in Cuba, with 58
being Pakistanis. The remainder of the prisoners are from
42 countries around the globe. “Enemy Combatants”
were chained up during frequent interrogations.
“We were questioned about Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaida
during investigation. I was interrogated 19 times by the Americans.
A General came to me the twentieth time and asked me to take
a step forward and said that he had some good news. At first
I couldn’t understand but then I was told that I was
to be released and sent to Pakistan. I still couldn’t
believe it. The next day I was give a bag and asked to take
my so-called belongings from Kandahar and then along with
three other Afghans, Jan Mohammad, Mohammad Siddique and 105
year old man Al-Umar Afghan, we were loaded into a Datsun
and brought to the airport where we boarded a plane. After
some hours, we were off loaded at Bagram airport where our
hands and feet were unchained.

The soldier at the airport told us to board a Pakistani military
plane which was there from Islamabad for us. I was kept by
intelligence officers for four days in Islamabad. They served
me in all regards and later sent me to Peshawar, where the
DIG brought me home under his custody.”
After his release from American prison, Mohammad Saghir was
given 100 USD and another $34 USD 34 when he reached home.

“I feed my family by working on a saw machine saying
that being in prison has totally destroyed my business”
he said. Saghir has demanded immediate compensation from America
to restart his business.
During the interview, Saghir told of the former ambassador
to Pakistan- Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef and several Taliban
leaders Khair Allah Khwa, Mullah Fazal, Mullah Rauf and Mullah
Zakir who he claims are all well. He said that during his
meeting with Mullah Zaeef and Mullah Khair Allah Khwa, they
told him that “Pakistani officials betrayed us and broke
their promises. We did what we were told to do. But even after
the promises we were arrested and handed over to the Americans.
We don’t understand the submissions of Pakistan. They
would say yes to every single order.” They have also
requested Muslims to pray for them so that ALLAH keeps them
steadfast.
Saghir says that the Northern Alliance tortured Muslims in
Afghanistan even more than the Americans, especially the Hazarans
who used to lead in torturing. He said that it is people like
these who are the real enemies of Islam and who could not
be forgiven under any circumstances, vowing “not to
bow down to sacrifice the religion of Islam while the last
drop of blood, given by Allah, remains in his body.”
Copies of the Quran and other religious books were taken
away and put under the feet of the martyrs and then set on
fire.
